I'm thinking about having my placenta encapsulated. Should I tell my Doctor/Midwife?
Yes! Share your decision with your Doctor/Midwife so that they are aware of your decision and so that they can keep your placenta safe after delivery so that it is not disposed into medical waste. It is a good idea to include your decision to encapsulate your placenta in your birth plan that way those present are aware that you will be keeping your placenta.
Where does the process happen?
For your safety and convenience, I prepare the placenta in your kitchen. I service the Durham Region and Greater Toronto Area. An applicable fuel surcharge is applicable for areas outside of my service area including the Greater Toronto Area (Ontario, Canada). Please contact me for pricing outside of these areas.
How can I transport the placenta home?
If you are having a hospital birth, you will typically be responsible for transporting the placenta home. The specialist will provide instructions for how you should store the placenta during your hospital stay so that it is safe for consumption and how to transport the placenta home.
If you are having a home birth, prepare a large ziplock bag labelled clearly "PLACENTA" placed into a large Tupperware container to be stored in the back of your fridge (the coldest part).

What is the process of making my placenta into pills and
how long does it take?
I practice placenta encapsulation using the Traditional Chinese Medicine TCM of encapsulation in two phases. The first phase includes steaming the placenta, then dehydration of the placenta for about 12 hours (the dehydrator will remain on during this time. I will leave instruction on how to supervise the dehydrator). This is completed in approximately 2 hours in your kitchen. The second final phase includes grinding the dried placenta, then encapsulating into vegan pills. This takes approximately 2 hours in your kitchen.
Do I need to provide any supplies?
In your kitchen, I will need access to one stove top burner, an empty sink, about 3 feet of cleared counter space and an accessible trash bin. You will not need to provide any other supplies.
